Throughout history men and women have wondered if the events in their lives were predetermined or if they really did have a choice. The Huna believe that some of the important events in our lives are crystallized and cannot be changed, but that some of the day to day events may be changed by our actions. They believe that eventually we will get to where we are supposed to be going, but we get to choose the road. Consider for a moment that all of us will eventually die and that no matter how hard we may try, that is not going to change. Also consider Jesus Christ. Christ was a highly evolved being who seemed like he had more control over his life and the events in his life than anyone who ever lived. And yet, when the time of his arrest and crucifixion came, he prayed to his Father to let him avoid the terrible pain he was about to experience if it was possible. As we know, his request was denied and he was tortured and died in agony. He couldn’t escape the purpose of his life.
One of the many lessons taught to us by Jesus Christ was that we each have a path and a purpose that we find through our Loved Ones. There were many times during his life that he made choices that affected the day to day events, but in the end, he knew his life’s purpose and faced it. He was in constant communication with the Father within. There is another lesson here as well, it was the only instance in the Bible where Jesus prayed for something for himself, and it was the only instance when he didn‘t get what he asked for. The only times Jesus was able to pray and get what he asked for was when he was praying for someone else.
I have had the same kind of results when doing spiritual mind treatments. If I pray for something for someone else and do it out of love for that person, then my Loved Ones are more likely to answer my prayer. The reason is that we are here to learn love and when you pray out of love for another person, you are demonstrating to your Loved Ones that you are learning the lesson of love. That is the Real “Secret” to getting an answer to prayer. When you are praying your shopping list to God, you might want to think about that.
There is a popular movie that is getting a lot of attention lately based on the so called “law of attraction“. It is a slick and professionally done production based on personal success stories and interviews with success gurus and practitioners of the “think and get stuff” philosophy. I have met people who swear by this method and who really do seem to be examples of the law of attraction. Their lives are a testimonial to a simple truth, if you focus on something you really want and believe you will get it, then you will get it. The only problem with this philosophy is that I have also met people who focused on what they wanted and believed they would get it and they didn’t. There is no “law of attraction” and one size or philosophy or life path does not fit all. For some people, the law of attraction works and for some it doesn’t. It doesn’t have anything to do with the method used by one group or the other, it has more to do with your life path and the purpose of your life.
While sitting in a meeting where the film was being discussed, a man was describing how well the law of attraction had worked for him. His experiences had opened up a whole new world to him and made him realize that there was more to life than just what he could see and touch. His experience with “mind treatments” as they are called in New Thought, had been a spiritual experience for him. A woman sitting beside me started to talk to me about the paranormal experiences in her life and how those experiences had been the path to a spiritual awakening and journey for her. She described it as Spirit dangling a carrot in front of her and leading her to where she was in her spiritual journey. Her psychic ability and experiences with phenomena hadn’t made her financially richer, but it had convinced her to lead a life of adventure in search of meaning.
I could relate to both of their stories. I have successfully used spiritual mind treatments for healing and the paranormal experiences in my life, everything from encounters with ghosts and ESP to psychometry, have lead me to the spiritual path I am on. Some people who work at the law of attraction to bring things into their lives and fail are sometimes told that they are trying too hard or perhaps their faith is weak. A lot of people are going to be let down by this latest wave of the law of attraction and materialism. The truth is, it isn’t that simple. We each have our own truth and must find our own path. For me the truth is that the things I ask for out of love for other people are much more likely to happen. Our Loved Ones may speak to us along the way to let us know that the world of spirit really does exist.
Life will use whatever is handy to get our attention and show us that there is more to life than what we can see and touch. It may be a demonstration of the law of attraction or a psychic experience. Our Loved Ones are gently whispering in our ears that they are waiting for us to turn to them and start our prodigal journey homeward. When you use the law of attraction and get what you want or have a paranormal experience and get a glimpse of the spirit world, consider it a postcard from your Loved Ones. It is their way of saying, “Just checking in to let you know everything is fine and we are here when you’re ready to come home, and by the way, the lesson is love.”
Both of my children were champion sleepers. I remember many times when waking them up and getting them started on their path for the day took quite a bit of work. Sometimes a visit from the “pinchie winchies” was the only thing that would get my daughter out of bed. Our Loved Ones often have the same difficult task of ‘waking’ us up. Sometimes they use letting us get what we want simply by thinking of it and sometimes they use paranormal experiences. At other times they remain silent and let us figure things out for ourselves. Like the good parents they are, they know just what we need and we get it, regardless of what we think. It is all related to our purpose in life.
The way to find your purpose and path is through your connection to your Loved Ones. Once you find your purpose and path the things you need will be supplied to you. Getting yourself in tune with your Higher Self so that you are aware of your purpose and perceive what it is, fulfills the promise of prayer. The real promise of prayer is that if you do it well and often you will eventually find that the one you are praying to is the one you truly are. Remember, you are your Higher Self and the thoughts you are thinking are within your Higher Self. As Jesus said, “I am in the Father and the Father in me.” The answer to prayer is within the prayer and the answer is within the one you truly are, love.
