Meet the Family
So if each of us is a collection of parts, what are the parts? Are they the same in everyone? How will knowing this help you to deal with problems in life and where does inner peace fit in? In the ancient religion of Huna, which is still practiced today, it is believed that a human being’s spirit has three parts. Throughout the book I will refer again and again to the parts and develop a clearer picture of each and what it does, but for now here is an introduction...
The basic parts of individual human consciousness that I am talking about and that are found in each person are...
a. the subconscious, also called the unconscious or subjective mind
b. the conscious or rational mind
c. the higher self or over soul
The reason I call it a family is that each assumes a role like a family member and can best be dealt with in that context. Throughout our world we see models for existence that are mirrored over and over again. Another way to put it is that throughout life we see a microcosm of a macrocosm, "As Above So Below", (Hermes Tristergisti). The family, as a single physical unit made up of members related by genetics or other interpersonal relationships, is one microcosm of the macrocosm of the human race itself. Each member of the family has an inner self made of parts that assume roles like family members, another microcosm. In other words, just as each human being is usually part of a family, the parts of that human's self are parts of a family that is contained within the individual. Also just as the individual has parts that form a family, the human race as a whole functions as a family.
Therefore, just as the well-being of each member is important in a human family, the well-being of each member of the human race contributes to the well-being of the entire race. So for the wellness of the human race we need to help the individual grow and find inner peace. In order for the individual to find that inner peace and wellness, all the members (parts) of the individual's consciousness must be reconciled. We have all seen the chaos and destruction caused by dysfunction within a family. So the key to inner peace is a well-functioning family within.
